Mew is supposed to be the ancestor of all Pokemon. This creates a paradox with Arceus, though, because Arceus is supposed to have created the Pokemon universe, but Arceus is a Pokemon. So Mew gave birth to Arceus, but Arceus created Mew.

With what we've learned from Legends Arceus, and that the Pokémon Arceus is actually "a part of Arceus", of which it has "1000 arms", it might indicate that Arceus true form is not a Pokémon.
The part you receive in the form of a Pokémon, may be an avatar, which though powerful, is not omnipotent or infallible.

Mew is a ship of theseus eldritch being. It existed concurrently with Arceus. Before or after is irrelevant because once Arceus made pokemon "Mew" absorbed pokemon DNA to become a pokemon. It's a tie between Arceus and Mew because "Mew" was not Mew before Arceus.

Pokémon is short for Pocket Monster, meaning the question is asking about the very first monster that was caught in a pocket-sized contraption.
Can’t be Bulbasaur since Oak had relatively recently just decided to record Pokemon. Can’t be Mew, since other pokemon were caught before it, same applies to Arceus. Perhaps it’s Rhydon, since it was the very first pocket monster drafted, therefore it is safe to assume it is the very first monster to be caught and tamed by humans.

You don’t “discover” Pokemon, just like how humans didn’t discover dogs, or any domesticated animal for that matter. Humans created the condition to change the initially wild canine into a domestic creature they came to refer as “dogs”, just like how wild equines came to be referred to as “horses” when they were tamed”. Pokémon is a human contracted phrase because it is short for POCKET MONSTERS, because they are MONSTERS that can be captured in devices that fit your POCKET.

Does this need to be hammered even further into your thick skull?

In-lore, there is no "first-caught" the only mentioned one is the Primeape that revealed the properties of shrinking to humans and even then, it was a tame pet specimen already (indicating humans had figured out how to work alongside humans before inventing pokéballs, which isn't weird, tin cans were invented before either the can opener or the soft drinks opening tab were thought of and humans still used them to preserve food and drink). Pick your flavour of "first", whichever suits your autism, if you can't understand that Game Freak are comfortable with all 4 being the "first" in some fashion. But don't try and write the canon because you started losing an argument online on this shithole.

the answer is in the question. present tense "is" can only mean it refers to dex number, otherwise the question would be "which was the first pokemon" and open it up to the other potential responses, but remove bulbasaur because it is the only current "first"
