Honestly I'm okay with it. Though I do wish they got more screen time as the podcast/radio episode was unironically comfy as fuck. When they're not being made the butt of the endless trying to catch Pikachu gag they have some really fun moments.

After taking a long break from the Anime I learned just now thanks to this thread that Team Rocket seems to barely be a thing in this season
And when they are they don't even use Pokemon that they caught themselves

Why would I watch this, Team Rocket was always the best part of the anime.

There's still countless pikachus out there that they can catch easily and without needing to use expensive shit that fail due to plot reasons.

I still watch every now and then after I've run out of anime to watch for the week, but I've skipped entire (or parts of) seasons. I don't have the compulsory NEED to tune in or anything like that as I probably would've when I was way younger.

They explained it in literally the second episode.

Ash's Pikachu displayed feats of power that they concluded were impossible for the species and did so while completely untrained, meaning Pikachu is both an extremely rare and powerful specimen in their eyes. They even tell Giovanni that they're constantly trying and failing to steal it and he just gets really fucking confused as to why they're wasting so much time on a common and weak Pokemon, and then gets pissed when he realizes they're constantly losing to a kid and tells them to stop it and do something productive because he doesn't believe them about it blowing up a fucking building. Literally the entire Rocket plot stems from them trying to catch Pikachu just so they can show Giovanni that they were right about it and prove they were acting with the organization's best intrests at heart and aren't failures like he claims.

Ironically, there have been moments now where Giovanni has seen Pikachu's power, and on top of that it has the prestige of being a Champion's ace. Doesn't change that the Team Rocket trio was obsessed over catching him, but it is funny to see Pikachu actually grow into a genuine powerhouse.

One of the only good things BW did was make Team Rocket less ubiquitous. They're way better if they appear less, and when they don't necessarily act as the episode antagonist when they do appear.

also in the beginning of the BW era Ashnime, Pikachu was able to conduct enough electricity and be on the same power as Zekrom. which Giovanni just so happened to be in a plane flying by/into Unova at that time, took note of it and thought it was Zekrom. also TRio had their best moments in BW, like James hacking or them doing some impressive spy shit, as well as being somewhat competent

The funny thing is that first "feat of power" that sparkled their unhealthy obsession with yellow rat was... igniting gas of Jame's own fucking Koffing. Said Koffing later as Weezing in 2nd movie dragged entire team Rocket to Shamouti Island, something that is mentioned only very powerful Pokemon can do.

Honestly, I'll occasionally watch two or three episodes when a new batch it's Netflix. I typically play it as background noise while I'm working on art projects.

Every now and then it'll take have a gag that makes me laugh, or the battle featured in the episode gets kinda fun.

I go in with the expectations that I'm not really paying attention 100%, and the show at this point has severely dumbed itself for small kids. Even some of the more "serious" episodes are treated more light-hearted that's what the show was like 20 years ago.

After rewatching the Indigo League I can wholeheartedly say they’re at their best when they’re used sparsely. Team Rocket being shoved into plot important episodes like the entirety of the Indigo Conference just to waste time or ruin everything gets really obnoxious.
