Weak bait, it's always third versions if they exist since they tend to incorporate elements from both previous versions. Why wouldn't it be Emerald, the game where all three legendaries are directly involved in the plot instead of just one? The same logic applies to Crystal and Platinum.

Sapphire.

1. Team Magma's hideout is not at Lilycove City as shown in Emerald. Since you never visit the opposite team's hideout in RS, Team Magma's hideout is still on Jagged Pass in Sapphire, but concealed. Team Aqua's hideout is in Lilycove City.

2. Team Aqua is stronger than Team Magma. Since Team Aqua uses Water type Pokemon and Team Magma use Fire type Pokemon, Team Aqua is stronger. This is why Team Magma can't defeat Team Aqua on their own and need you to help them during the story. The reverse doesn't make sense.

3. Decreasing the amount of land is a far more dangerous plan than decreasing the amount of ocean. Earth's surface is already 71% water. If anything, the Earth needs more land surface. Nothing will suffer if the ocean depth is decreased, but increasing it will flood millions of square miles where people and Pokemon live. You're trying to prevent Water World from happening.

The Battery Cell subquest in BW asks you to get a mon from another opelucid city, which is one from the opposite version, thus introducing the multiverse.
Keep in mind that "universe" and "timeline" are pretty much used interchangeably here, they're hard words for the pokemon fanbase.

In universe the events of Yellow, Crystal, Emerald and Platinum supersede the previous game events for the game's overarching narrative, however as Zinnia/USUM proved, the alternate versions of the games are ALSO canon in the multiverse sense.

Ruby and Team Magma because it's the Red version and you know Red has been released in both Japan and everywhere else while Green and Blue were split up also Red has Charizard as a box legendary so I mean it kinda checks out. Also bonus point for Ruby being the name in the duo Ruby&Sappire, just as Red and Gold are more fitting considering the game's setting I mean come on Lugia is a literal who on some random island while Ho oh actually fits the Kyoto theme with the kimono girls. Version differences where explained through multiverse in BW.
ORAS just utilized it to refer to the original games and USUM didn't even touch the idea, just used parallel worlds for entirely new settings.

no, just easy to rely on. you can tell really interesting stories with the concept of the multiverse and multiple timelines. Umineko does the concept really well. Also yeah >pokemon fangame But Pokemon Infinity did the concept of time travel and multiverse stuff really well in its plot.

I'm assuming Groudon and Kyogre's powers are effecting the atmosphere which is why Rayquaza's Air Lock shuts them down. Groudon can open holes into the ozone layer whereas Kyogre can lower barometric pressure. This is all fanfiction though
