Aesthetically this gimmick would look good if it didn't have the stupid fucking hats. Why can't they just crystalize into the color that their new type is?

There are 18 types. Color itself is too subtle when you have light blue for ice, blue for water, purple for dragon, dark purple for ghost, light purple for poison, pale blue for flying...

That said the decision for hats is still dumb. They could've had elemental ornament effects surround the pokemon instead or float around it. Unfortunately they seem to prioritize merchandise when it comes to gimmicks. Unfortunately they prioritize making new gimmicks like this at all.

>There’s 18 types, they all need to be very visually distinct to be immediately obvious
>If you’re playing on handheld, finer details might be far harder to see
>Matches with the festival theme of the opening music which could hint at an overlapping theme

And last of all

How about they try to include something for everyone? Some of the most popular franchises became popular doing that. Pokemon gen 1 was heavily less for babies than current generations and that's why everyone loves it - they all could find something they liked, no matter their age. Shrek would be another similar example.

I feel like they could've made the crowns smaller, something similar to the kirby copy ability crowns. That would’ve been more aesthetically pleasing. Also making the crystallization more subtle.

It's the single most successful and popular franchise in history. If you weren't going to buy a Pokemon game before you never will and you're not even transiently part of a large enough demographic to justify changes that can easily lose them existing customers. They've already won over every other franchise and it's a wide gap to second place, they do not need to take risks or add extra effort just so they can win harder, that's not how you run a franchise. Stop being fucking retarded and get over it.
