They should have kept the motion-controls GO catching and remove the shoehorned trainer battles and the blocky recreation of the GameBoy-era map, making it a more arcade-focused experience where you chase high-scores (almost akin to a fishing game)
You can see how bad the 2 gameplays gel together when battling pushover trainers as usual givers you barely any exp. but more Poké Balls, and catching wild Pokémon gives you tons of exp. and it's something you are encouraged to do in a long chain to get bigger Pokémon with better stats and shinies
Also they shouldn't have made it a $60 holiday title falsely-advertised as the "mainline RPG for Switch in 2018", they should have kept it as a $20-30 eShop title
