The only thing he's wrong about is thinking Gen 5 is better than Gen 4. Gen 5 wasn't actual shit like everything after it but it gets too much love for how badly it ruined trainer art design and all the shitmons it had. Plus its continuing Gen 4's sins of way too many legendaries and cutscenes and being more annoying about it than Gen 4.

PLA is a good tech demo and it represented the first major step forward in Pokemon gameplay probably since the series started. Many standard features were pared back, but that felt OK, since the game felt like baby steps toward a more complete entry.

Now it seems plausible we'll never see PLA gameplay in any other games, so it feels just like a kind of incomplete tech demo.

I still had a lot of fun with it, and I thought it did enough right to make for a decent experience. But yeah, it was a deeply flawed, very repetitive game that cut too much from core Pokemon gameplay. I feel like even the biggest PLA simps should be able to admit that.

The trailer showed you battling in overworld locations so seamless battling seems likely. Free catching probably isn't but I can understand that being a spin off feature as it does effect the game's dynamic. I can understand the annoyance at gamefreak picking and choosing QoL features but sometimes different mechanics suit different games. PLA was much more focused on filling the dex so if anything I'd like to see a sequels go more that way, while the main games look for what works in a battling focused game.

I actually missed Gen 5 because of Gen 4, and I'm still kinda pissed I didn't get to play the best Gen while it was current.
