Yes, but it was implemented hilariously poorly.
None of his Pokemon benefit from sand other than Gigalith getting a SpDef boost.
No Sand Rush, Sand Veil, Sand Force, Shore Up, Weather Ball, not even another Rock-type. At least none of them are damaged by sand, but still.

I guess as a bit of a curveball although it's more so with type matchups would be Maylene's Gym, Machoke and Meditite each have means of dealing with one of Fighting-Type's (at the time) two weaknesses and Lucario being part-Steel means it doesn't have a weakness to either type.

His "E4" team isn't much better.
Each of the mons are OK in a vacuum (except Goodra with Rain Dance and no Hydration), but there's no synergy whatsoever, which the bread and butter of weather teams.
And it has 3 different weathers.

I've often thought, is there a trainer battle, across all games, that can be considered the BEST - as in, all-around most well designed and intense? Most of the battles that are noteworthy are not noteworthy for the composition of the team.

Boomers will say red, zoomers will say cynthia, but we all know the real answer is Ghetsis. Even if you hated gen 5, Ghetsis was fucking based, and a perfectly difficult battle right after you fought the E4 and N, great for capping off the game and it knocks the other villain teams out of the water.

Roark is one of those gym leaders that seems like they're gonna be harder then they really are for me, you're guaranteed a counter essentially. Turtwig destroys the gym with stab Razor leaf and good defense, Chimchar destroys the gym since it evolves into Monferno at only Lv 14 and it get's either mach punch or rock smash, off a high ass attack stat. Piplup is probably the worst cause bubble sucks but it still one shots both geodude and onix, and 3 shots cranidos, and you can always catch a budew, a psyduck, a machop, or maybe just teach someone rock smash and bam you're done. Cranidos doesn't even get stab although I know he barely needs it.

Yeah it would be based if only you weren't healed between N and Ghetsis.
But that might have made the thing nearly impossible without items.

Considering N has a full team of six and could easily have been the final boss himself, and that the battles are back-to-back with no opportunity to use items, I think it would've been completely insane to not give a heal before Ghetsis.

I think this is supposed to be a "hey kids, look at these cool gimmicks you can use!" team, rather than a serious attempt at making a curveball weather team.
That said, I wonder if it's possible to build a sensible team that synergizes well with two different weather conditions.

Most of the bosses in Colosseum qualify. Evice is a stand-out example, though. He's got Skill Swap to take away Slaking's Truant, a Baton Passer, and some serious muscle in Machamp and Salamence. All that on top of good type coverage, and a Shadow Pokemon that's dangerous in its own right as opposed to just tricky to catch. It's a pretty awesome team, and he outdoes all of his Admins in the sense that they tend to be pretty one-note, even if they're a welcome change of pace from the monotype Gyms.

Volkner scarf Raichu was fun at least, reminds me of hard mode scarf chandelure in B2W2

It's crazy that the teams in BDSP are actually kinda not bad.
Game is still easy because of the AI and forced affection, and forced Exp. share, but some dev at ILCA clearly has a passion for teambuilding.

Lusamine should have been a roadmap for all future boss battles. Boosted stats, plus IVs. I forget if she had an EV spread too but even without it all bosses should put the player at a disadvantage like that. Volo is also tied for first because like Lusamine, he puts the player at a reasonable disadvantage.

Not really because Gamefreak is not really passionate about anything anymore. That's why their interviews are always so miserabld to watch. Masuda is always just ready to be done in modern interviews and every answer is a nonanswer. Also these games are getting three year dev cycles. They can't delay but they're not being rushed as much as people think.

Meanwhile ILCA's One Piece Odyssey team is very passionate about the game and it shows in every interview.

If this was in BW1, I'd get it, but the meta had already been going on for a while when BW2 came out. Could they not have used mons that are more prominent on weather teams?

Still infinitely better than Raihan, though.

What annoys me is how if they wanted a weather based dragon gym... Why didn't they do something like make Flygon's HA Sandstream?
Why did they not design or implement dragon mons who take advantage of the weathers... Beyond the broke fossils.
