When do pokemon stop being 'new captures' to you? None of the game protags had their pokemon longer than a year. Ash has had Pikachu for less than a year. Hell, given SM to PM is a 9 month leap, OS to SM is all <3 months. Ash's Pikachu with less than 3 months experience defeated Drake's Dragonite, Brandon's Regice, Tobias's Darkrai and Tapu Koko. All of those opponents being worthy of the E4.

Really. The 'new capture' take is just asinine. I don't care if Cynthia has had her Garchomp since she first became a trainer. Ash has been defeating adult trainers with decades of experience over him for ages now. Even with his newest captures. Pretending Cynthia is anything special in this regard is silly.

Garchomo, Kommo-o, Roserade, Gastrodon, Milotic...and 1 mystery Pokemon.

Spiritomb or Togekiss are the likely last pokemon, but it's also possible she won't use Gastrodon or Milotic against Ash like she did Iris. So who knows.

If we want to talk levels, it makes sense to go from the highest level teams (since this is the Masters 8 with everyone going all out). In that case, Iris's team is all Level 81 and up with Haxorus being Level 83. Ash defeated it with Dragonite.

At minimum Ash's Dragonite is Level 83, probably his Dracovish as well. His Pikachu and Lucario are both significantly stronger than that. So overall, Ash's team matches up to Cynthia's range of 84 to 86 with Garchomp being the only potential outlier at 88.

That Koharu episode was beautiful. I really liked seeing her finally interested in her dad's work. It was so heartwarming seeing how far she's come. From the girl who was too cool for pokemon to a woman who yearns for understanding them. I'm still hoping for her to show up in gen 9 but damn, that episode is satisfying as conclusion for her too.

It's a little curious to me because her Haxorus's Outrage was being dealt with by base Garchomp IIRC while Ash's base Lucario overpowered Raihan's Level 76 GMax Duraludon. I know applying level logic doesn't really work but that's basically a 4-level gap compared to a 5 level gap.

Plus while Ash's Pikachu did use 10,000,000 Volts Steven's Metagross is Level 79 to my recollection and even with Mega Evolution it failed to knock out Pikachu. You could chalk that up to some Affection/Friendship shenanigans but I would honestly think Pikachu is way higher levelled.

I think it was a good episode for her but not so much a good conclusion. She should’ve been introduced to Ilima instead of Lana so she could see Eevee’s Z-Move to realize that even when it’s not evolved Eevee still has the power of its 8 evolutions. Then finally show off Gmax Eevee for Koharu to see the full extent of Eevee’s abilities finally realize Eevee has all kinds of special things about it and it’s possibilities truly are endless.

This was just a thinly veiled Sakuragi backstory episode because funnily enough he’s the only one at the Lab that hasn’t gotten one

So then use the anime logic where Lucario literally created a “Gigantamax Aura Sphere”. It was so big then it made the stadium glow and broke through the Gmax Rockfall. That’d be like a critical hit in game terms. Duraludon was barely scratched by Lucario’s regular size Aura Spheres, the big one is the one that actually hurt it.

I think they are just bullshitting desu, levels do not logically make any sense in the context of the anime. You cannot tell me that Charizard isnt level 100 by game logic. Sorry, I won't have it. This is why we need to separate game mechanics from the anime which is supposed to be a more "realistic" portrayal of the Pokemon universe. It shouldnt be hampered by game balancing, and isn't really transferrable between the two mediums.

These events are just tie-ins. I dont see why we should look any more deeper than that. If we do then logic is thrown away and we are simply arguing nonsense.

I find complaints about the JN team being so strong to be ridiculous. Unlike previous series, Ash spends his downtime training in the lab, and as we’ve seen multiple times, he’ll train all day if his Pokémon are up for it. The fact that he has this big open space to have his Pokémon go all out without any restraints has enabled him to cross boundaries he otherwise couldn’t do to things out of his control like traveling the region and not always having time to just sit down and let his Pokémon go at it. Not to mention his Pokémon have all of Goh’s Pokemon as potential training partners. His Pokémon are super strong now because majority of his time is dedicated to making them stronger. It’s not that difficult a concept to grasp

Cynthia’s Garchomp doesn’t know any Ground moves so I don’t see what it could really do to Lucario. I think it used Dig like once against Chimchar but that was it and that can easily be countered by Lucario’s Aura.

I think people are underestimating what Ash’s team can do. This is the first time they’ve all battled together in a match like this. I feel like the take down of Garchomp will be a team effort.

Literally every other series did this too. Except that most of it was onscreen, and they didnt start out as expert level Pokemon, so there was a real feeling of meaningful development. The only Pokemon that can really apply to is Lucario, and a little Gengar. The rest are mostly the same as they've been since being obtained. I just dont like how this series structures its development and story arcs.

Lana was important not because she has an Eevee, but because it's relatable to Koharu. Just like with Lillie's Vulpix, it has the ability to evolve, yet it hasn't. It's not literally about its evolutions, Eevee is an extension of Koharu's character and her indecisiveness to "evolve". This whole time she, and we as the audience, have been seeing evolution as something concrete that has to be chosen with consideration, but "staying as an Eevee" means staying true to yourself, no matter which path you choose. Lana's is on her own path, and likewise so is Koharu's, but also everyone else's. Each Eeveelution they came across had its own story that culminated to them evolving, but their story was never about the evolution itself. The Flareon and Jolteon episode even highlights this by showing that it's not the evolution that matters, but the Eevee inside it. Koharu and Eevee's story was always about not getting lost in expectations and being true to yourself and the desires that stem from that. Even Sakuragi's story this episode was relevant. He started out young and slowly evolved into a great person fueled by the self. The story is about how if you forge your own journey your destination will come naturally. There's no need for Koharu to worry about finding a destination, and that realization opened her up to finding her own path.

No, that's literally the opposite of what I'm saying. People have to choose "a" path because time and growth are linear. Eevee's evolutions represent the different paths it and its trainers end up in. You can't use them as metaphors for options because they're the end result. It's more about human nature, really. If Ilima showed up with his harem Z move it would confuse Koharu and make her think that pursuing everything in the whole wide world is an achievable scenario. The metaphor would fall aprt instantly, you can't be more than one person. And "endless possibilities" refers to, again, human nature. Think of it like Koharu going to a job fair. There aren't only 8 types of jobs in the world, but a good possibility that she may end up in one under a classification from those 8. Endless possibilities means to ignore numbers, there are no paths, but a vast open field.

I get what you mean but that's still no excuse for them not giving its attacks kino animation.

For example its signature move, meteor mash. When you use it in the game you imagine it is the worst shit, literally like getting hit by meteors and destroying all surroundings in the process.

Same for bullet punch, I always imagined it would look incredibly violent and brutal animated in a battle.

tldr Metagross is supposed to be both a tank and a ruthless killing machine, commanded by a friendly gentleman

Sadly we didn't get any of that. Instead the lazy animators decided that Metagross' signature move is *TELEPORTS INCREDIBLY FAST SO YOU CAN'T HIT IT!!!!!!!*. Which left Stevenfags wondering what the fuck they were smoking

You say that like it hasn't been the case for ages. They've been using freelancers for their most sakuga ridden scenes since at LEAST SM. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the case for XY too. Iwane put in a fuck ton of work in most of the key battles but I would imagine they probably got outside help for one or two scenes here and there.

I feel that there is a good chance of Ash catching the main legendary of Paldea if he stays in the next series. I feel it's the right time and right region since Ash already reached Master 08. TPCI's Pokemon main Series dub is so terrible it's the butt of jokes these days, and is still living in the shadow of the 4Kids dub from the late 1990s-early 2000s in almost every way.

Says a lot. You get what you pay for, and Pokemon Company International is **notoriously** cheap when it comes to animated products, unlike the video games where they expend nigh all their budget since 90% of the revenue is from them now.

You heard Clavell, right, in the Scarlet/Violet trailer? TPCI can't voice act for shit across almost any media (Origins is the best dub they put out in almost 15 years- the Ashime they did worse than 4Kids ever did by this point, Generations is edgelord the VA Series and people have too shit taste to realize how bad this was truly acted, Evolutions is bland, and Masters has the Ashime same shit VA work with a forgettable Brock/Misty that still fade into woodwork).

VA work and the music quality were the biggest casualties from the 4Kids Era that were lost once they let their right elapse to the Series in Animated form in late 2006:

Indeed, 4Kids at least took jabs at themselves sometimes: TPCI are too thin skinned to even do that.

Pretty much everyone misses Eric Stuart's James by this point (he sounds like a heaven-sent angel even at his lowest compared to Carter Cathcart's goofy, old nasal man with cold take for close to over a decade now), hates Ed Goldfarb's dub music score, and misses 4Kids' openings vs. TPCi's in particular.

The opening theme songs/intros are a huge casualty from the old days, too.
