Why the hell is it that there are so many Pokémon fans with the weirdest fetishes known to man? From my time on this earth I have had the awful experience of seeing inflation, vore, giantess, transformation, fat, waste, Feral and Loli. Like what the actual hell is it just because Pokémon fans are so trainered and it’s just because of the sheer size of the franchise?

I feel like this is accurate. Like the stereotype of all furries being gay, only for straight furries to come up a sizable majority in any study with a large enough sample, furries are just more open about sexuality. I mean, you saw what happened when 50 Shades of Grey came out: a lot of people decried it as heinous smut and worse, and then apparently all those people bought a copy, because it was a runaway success.
I suspect it's also tied to differentiating fiction from reality; if someone understands that wanting to fuck Renamon doesn't mean you want to fuck an actual real IRL fox, they're more likely to believe that having a tf fetish doesn't mean you'd actually enjoy being turned into a "real" anthro, with all the fur-, social-, and diet-related challenges that come with that.
