Doesn’t this defeat the whole purpose of what a legendary is supposed to be? They don’t feel special now because we can ride on them throughout the whole story. I don’t know maybe it’s just me

At least it's confirmed that there are other legendaries in the game.
Still, it's an issue that we have to cope around the fact that the box legendary is given early
Honestly it can be pretty based if the legendary participates in the cutscenes, but I can hardly see GF being smart enough to do that.

I’ll certainly agree it’s not one I love, but it’s not an automatic red flag for me.

I think I would’ve preferred glimpses of it through the story though and have the rides be fulfilled by other Pokémon first, then the legend as an upgrade. Maybe even give the other Pokémon special features whilst the advantage to the legend is being seamless traversal change and speed at the loss of these unique traits.

Yeah it's not one for me either.
As I said in my first post, GF can pull cool things with it but I don't think they will manage to.

Legendary is just a designation of rarity, it doesn't necessarily suggest anything special about the Pokemon aside from that. Hell, Mewtwo is a legendary and it was grown in a test tube. While it does make it seem less special since you spend the entire game riding on it, it's really not any different from finding it in a stationary location near the end of the game. The entire point of a legendary Pokemon being rare is kinda moot anyway since you know you're guaranteed to get it by the end of the game anyway. Roaming legendaries are horrid shit but at least they actually feel special since you need to track them down.

mew's dna is kinda the factor that made mewtwo special tho
but i get what you mean, the legends doesn't have to be hidden. i think people are annoyed since box legends are once again main plot, probably given out for free like candies and just check-mark that you gotta fulfill in order to get ending, so all the mystery around legendaries goes straight to the toilet

nah, it's called trying something new
like how in sm the cover legend was in your annoying sidekick's purse the whole time, or how in swsh you meet them within the first 20 minutes of the game
i'm sure they'll make some trio master or uber legend that's hidden away somehow
