>>51146129I still don't get the hate - Charizard was my Bro
actually my Sis, but I didn't know that until I traded her into Silver after the fact back in the day and the first pokemon I ever had - it was an awesome, fire breathing dragon (inb4 'not a real dragon!' - it's a mythological Salamander, which IS classified as a form of dragon, despite the in-game typing) and is still my ace on every team in every game I play.
Also, anyone who calls it a shillmon doesn't understand what a shillmon actually is - a shillmon is a Pokemon who's popularity is purely the result of marketing (i.e. Pikachu or Meowth, both which are pretty useless in-game past a certain point and wouldn't be memorable at all if they weren't shoved in your face from all the marketing material for the anime). Charizard, on the other hand, is included in everything because it was ALREADY popular - it was the most chosen and most used of the three starters back in the day, and whenever merch of the starters was sold, it was usually the Charmander line stuff that outsold the Bulbasaur and Squirtle lines (though it fell short of Pikachu, who, again, was shilled heavily because he was the main 'mon of the anime). It makes sense they'd use the most popular of the original 'mons for future marketing - but everyone seems to get the idea backwards and assume 'Zard is popular because it's used everywhere, rather than the actual fact that it's used everywhere because it was already popular.
