What new mechanics are we talking? Breeding? Phys/Spec split? Abilities? Hold items? Because every new mechanic slowly devolved Pokemon into the wack mess we have today.

And besides, FRLG was actually really good. Anything more you could possibly want will probably only happen in fan games.

i thought it might be good to add the active time battle from final fantasy, a pp bar fills up and you use it sooner to do weak attacks, or later to use special moves, and you equip your favorite four or so moves outside battle, but during battle you can navigate through a list to access all moves your pokemon knows (with the active battle going of course)
i figure stuff like this would be a start.

Have you tried Legends Arceus?
Some of the stuff they have I'd love to make it to mainline.

Other than that, I always wanted them to rework accuracy/evasion because the bare minimum tech they have for it is either toxic or completely useless. I would rather missing/critting being handled like Disgaea games where hits are weaker on mons that dodge moves, and higher accuracy can modify damage.
