Triples Than doubles specially be said you can have sun out right away and have a third Pokémon out to solarbeam whatever resist Eruption or even give Typhlosion a Flash Fire boost (though it don’t think Typhlosiom was allowed to have flash fire in that because it wasn’t release yet because they were two busy giving CHARIZARD two megas)
It obviously has flaws especially against rain teams, but that’s what the rest of the team is for, triples let you have 6 Pokémon so just lead with different moms in that case
