Look, I love the SM sakuga cuts, but fact of the matter is most of SM was animated just as statically as the rest of the anime prior to XY. XY wasn't even animated especially well, it just had largely consistent animation and 3D camera tricks that obscured a lot of blemishes. Iwane putting in work for key battles and no speed line backgrounds helps. Like it or not, XY is just the better animated series. If artstyle dictated animation quality, surely JN would be on par with, if not better than SM?
