There's nothing wrong with this.
In fact, someone posted the Japanese version last night and this is a pretty accurate translation.
If you want to see shitty translations you have to go back to pre-gen 6. I don't know if the translators were rushed or what, but the dialogue is really shit.

But I played BW recently and found the dialogue was really shitty. It wasn't so much a bad translation as it was just a stilted and clumsy localization.

I'm always the first to criticize the English translations but I think they're excellent for the paygrade and time constraints they're under. They get the meaning across 90% of the time even if the wording isn't always the smoothest.
No one is doing a literary translation of a fucking Pokemon game.

BW was the first done by TPC, so it was the first most-faithful translation after years of NoA's shitty executive meddled translations and were also the first to be directly translated from Japanese to the various languages, instead of another NoA special - translating to english, then translating from English to the various foreign languages.
I can see why that would have annoyed children of the era though.

It's not bad translation, the way she explains it is rather clear cut. You need to prove yourself to the Pokemon League like they're a committee of sorts. The usage of 'to' expresses that the topic of the conversation is not just an event, but that they're something that you need to convince for official recognition.
