The inspiration for the game regions are purely flavor and aesthetic. For example, Alola is tropical, with friendly locals, palm trees, tanned people, etc. like stereotypical Hawaii. That doesn't mean Alola had a Pearl Harbor because Pokemon regions aren't 1:1, renamed versions of real-life places, and they never will be.
