According to Sugimori, every Pokemon design is "ruined" on purpose with some goofy element, to make it "less cool".

What's the goofy element here to make this Charizard X "less cool"?

I am a big fan of Mega Charizard X. The part that I'd find most unflattering would be the perpetually active mouth flames. I think they should've been more like Typhlosion where they seep out when it's charging up or using Fire-type attacks.

I think you misunderstood what he meant.

This "might" is important. He'll do it in some cases, but won't in others. Specifically, he won't do it to Charizard.
>If a Pokemon is too cool, it won't capture a player's heart.
The "it" he refers to here is Charizard.
If a Pokemon is too cool, it'll distract from how cool Charizard is and Charizard won't capture the player's heart.
