Depends on my mood, but I try to keep a general theme behind my naming conventions. Naming them after herbs, spices, and fruits is what I'm currently doing in my Pokemon Crystal playthrough.

Alternative names that they could have had in another world.
Also, sometimes it'll be altered for thst region, like my Hisui team had jap names. Typhlosion was Magmatama, for instance.

Pokemon are not friends. They are not >Digimon.
Pokemon are tools of war. They only need to know that I am commanding them to take my opponents down. A name provides individuality. I would no quicker name a pokemon than I would a knife or gun.
