this was ashs best rival. even better than gary who was just a prick for no reason and had better character development (releasing chimchar just to have infernape beat him)(coming back in journeys).

Paul was always stronger than Alain. He’s underrated because he lost to Ash, who was going to win that league had Tobias not shown up with legends.

In the last episode we see him in DPP, he says that they will both be league champions. I feel like he’s going to be cynthias replacement.

Basically yeah. They’re pretty similar but the major difference is that when Paul debuted he had the same level experience of Ash. They were 2 sides of the same coin.
