The whole 'going ape' thing seems like some XY-era weirdness that they wanted to throw in to add some edgy element to Megas, as well as continuing to imitate Naruto. Even XY gave up on this by the end, letting characters like Trevor and Sawyer use Mega Evolution without the need for a whole 'containing the rage' arc.

Lance back in OS/AG was not great at all. He was never portrayed as an actual champion, just an undercover G-man for two villain plots and the second where he stole Steven's role.

I can't even comprehend how people think JN didn't do wonders for Lance's character. It was the first time they ever portrayed him as a real Champion. The champions in general besides Cynthia were always treated poorly until maybe XY

Legends Arceus's plot revolves around Cynthia's family descending from some legendary hero who defeated Arceus seeking to reclaim their former glory. The plot thread was never really concluded in the game itself so its clearly setting stuff up for the future.

Because the League and post-League had to be crammed in the very final episodes, else we wouldn't have time for all those Potchama fillers.
Honestly, I'd take it as it is if there was another Battle Frontier arc afterwards, or if he won and had revenge battles against the E4, but lost to Cynthia - to me, the idea of Ash becoming a Champion in Sinnoh is somehow random than in Alola.

(He should have won Johto and ended his main run there anyway)

I don't know, i feel like that team would have been destroyed just as easily. Squirtle and Bulbasaur would have gone down as easily as Torkoal and Swellow. Charizard is overrated. Sceptile was decimated by Latios. Infernape could have probably done something if he could survive long enough to use Blaze.

I always thought the reason Ash didn't use his DP team against Tobias was because they were too tired from fighting Paul but the episode never does mention it. It's pretty obvious the staff didn't want them to take the massive L and instead chose the Hoen team to take the fall.

Ash needs an ice-type on his team to counter dragon-type Pokemon, and I think DP Ash is smart enough to realize that dragon types are more common among strong trainers. I got caught up in this stupid dogshit tourney after not watching pokemon for a decade because it seemed like Ash was finally becoming a champion and I figured thered be really good battles. It's really weird to me the writers purposely gave Dawn no team updates in 3 returns. Originally I didn't mind, but when they even gave Clemont and Serena new evolutions for essentially background cameos, it's kinda weird. Like was there some kind of "rule" that Dawn's team had to remain exactly the same as when DP ended?

Because no other companion was treated like that. Misty got new pokemon in AG, a Mega evolution, Brock constantly gets team updates like Blissey and the new SM capture, Serena and Clemont got evolutions, Iris got Haxorus, even the rivals like Gary, Paul and Gladion all got new pokemon for goodness sakes.

Project Mew’s problem is it’s lack of focus and rushed pacing. We are nearing its climax and have no idea who the Project Mew team are, their backstories, how they formed, and where they got their Urshifu from. Goh’s relationship with Gary got a rushed resolution, Goh’s “rivals” only got rushed developments, and Goh hasn’t done a single mission where he’s accomplished anything by himself. None of the Project Mew activities have developed Goh outside of the Project Mew activities, none of his Pokémon have evolved since he entered aside from Froakie, Milcery, and Drizzile which had to nothing to do with Project Mew. The battles have been fun, the Champion interactions have been enjoyable, all the cameos even if they are silent are very neat pieces of fanservice for longtime viewers, the battle styles from every Champion are very interesting to watch, the Pokémon being used is diverse and giving limelight to Pokémon who otherwise haven’t had proper showings in battle yet, and the overall sense of scale of the tournament just feels great. These are really trainers carrying the hopes of their entire regions on their backs and fighting with their all. My favorite moments so far are when everyone was shocked seeing Ash use a Z-Move, as it’s unique to him as opposed to Dynamax and Megas, as well as Alain telling Leon how his dream is to overcome Leon’s Charizard in order to have the strongest Charizard and Leon being humble about it. In my opinion the tournament has been handled to my satisfaction and I am very excited to see how the final three battles will go.

Series is about a new group, but Ash is a primary traveling companion. He's now basically the Brock of the group. The older, knowledgeable boy keeping a more level head and instilling trainer knowledge to his younger protégé.

Goh sucks as a character. If they were going to focus on the capture aspect they should have just stolen Kris’ thing from Pokémon adventures. She actually has a motivation and a set team.

Although the concept of “gotta catch ‘em all” was pretty fucked altogether considering there’s nearly 1,000 of the things and is an idea that would have worked during Gen 4. Doesn’t help that THIS IS THE GEN WHERE YOU CANT GET EVERY POKÉMON!

It was way too predictable to be interesting. Maybe if someone got actually shafted like Gary or Tokio it would be interesting, but the plots that actually could've been interesting like the betrayal one were pretty fucking lame in the end. Once I heard there were 3 trainers being selected as chasers it was obvious who it was going to be and there was no point in watching
