Ranger and GO both introduced a Pokemon each. Also PLA's Japanese name uses the Pokemon abbreviation instead of Pocket Monster, only sidegames do that.

well, thats why i call it a spinoff. over time, identities are built up, and thats how i see it. its just enough of a departure. especially the part where your character can participate in battle.

It's a core Pokemon title because it's the flagship of a new series, that's why it has different titling and branding than every other Pokemon game in existence even in JP.

PLA's mechanics are more like RB than the modern games since they lack abilities and held items. For that reason I consider LGPE and PLA to be "spinoffs" from the original games. The modern games build on the mechanics from previous games so they're "mainline" but I'm autistic so who gives a shit kek
