Remember that Pokemon aren't animals, they're monsters. This applies moreso to gen 1 and 2.

Also remember that they're of Japanese origin, and in Japanese folklore, random objects, like perfectly normal umbrellas, can become monsters for no reason other than "it's an old umbrella"

Stop trying to apply biological logic to things that were never designed with it in mind to begin with

I always imagined them first as a big steel ball with an eye in it, and then they pull the rest of the parts onto them. Eventually they pull more steel balls with eyes and evolve. Magnerzone ruins this tho

I always figured the screws weren't actually screwed in and just attracted to it by magnetism. Then it gets to control them with its body. It's implied that they are not natural in the sense that we understand it. Magneton is just three of them stuck together so it's not really "evolution", and IIRC the original DPPt Pokedex entry for Magnezone implies that it receives signals from space through its antenna. So I would imagine that they are not earthly in origin

Magneton is a proper evolution unlike Slowbro or Slowking. It weighs 10 times as much as Magnemite instead of 3, and the 2 subunits don't have brains, there's also no indication or mention of them separating after evolving also unlike Slowbro/Slowking.

I understand that. And in the anime it splits to form the evolution. But I also think back to Pokemon snap where you can evolve it by just getting three Magnemite to connect, or the dex entries in the first two generations that say it is just three of its prevo linked together

The pokedex used terms like "born" and 'hatchet" when talking about Magnemite implying it is a natural creature. In LGPE the term born was changed to hatched further implying that they are natural. And Magnemite has been depicted in old ruins and was seen in the kalos war toom

I don't mind the concept. In real life there's animals that people often mistakes for objects like sponges and coral. There's even an animal that looks pretty much like a rock until you crack it open. My only issue is when they start to be too on the nose in regards to man-made objects like the ice cream Pokémon.

Object mons are fine as long as the first part of its evolution cycle doesn't have any object and when it evolves it gains whatever the fuck you want. Of course were talking about gamefreak though. Yes they were still as shit in 1994 as today in 2022 so it always apples
