>>51226608Ever since Megas became a smash hit, Pokémon has been a merchandise franchise with the games and other things being mostly a formality; doubly so thanks to GO.
The only reason main games are still being made is because of contractual obligations. Game Freak is required for making the world, Nintendo needs a new game or DLC every year, and TPC needs a new merch set every 3 years.
And yes, you can thank Unova for all of this. More specifically, the reactions it got. Worst sales of a new gen, people frothing at the mouth because they can't catch any old mons, the lines taken as insults to their Kanto brethren or just plain insults. The franchise was crashing hard.
Megas came as an apology to these fans, and it launched the franchise into orbit. Now all they have to do is restock on food (games), water (gimmicks), and oxygen (mons) every now and then and they're good.
>How do we fix pokemon? The only place to fight this thing is at the source; the merch cycle. A slower merch cycle would mean more time for GF to make, fix, and bring some heart into their product.
Good luck fighting the materialistic aspect of human nature.
