It eats dreams and likes good ones, If it encounters a child that has good dreams, it would make sense for it to want to have that child around. In fact, omitting "every atrocity imaginable" it would be against Hypno's best interest since it would need to keep the child as happy as possible so that child makes pleasant dreams instead of nightmares.
