Most thing suffered from the sprite to 3D shift, but following Pokemon was absolutely destroyed. Wasn't too bad in LGPE, but that game also was very grid like. Sprites have yet to be topped.

The lack of a grid system meant they had to put some work into how Pokemon actually move through the overworld as they follow you.

I haven't played SWSH but holy shit BDSP was a disaster. What were they thinking with Pokemon literally constantly getting left behind and teleporting to you? What was the fucking point of that?
It's like they went out of their way to program "realistic" walking speeds just to make it awful. It's some kind of incompetence that goes beyond not doing anything, it's actively making it bad.

Oh and I forgot the fact that it takes hours of progress to even unlock the feature instead of it being there from the start, like they sweeped it under the rug to avoid making a bad first impression. Did they know it was awful?

Sword is like that except all pokemon have their encounter hitboxes acting as their normal ones; meaning its a giant fucking sphere around them and you can very noticeably run into it.
But yeah the walking speed came from it as well. SV shows the same thing in an early trailer though thats not definitive. Just don't expect it to be fixed.
