Does "RT Mewtwo because it was funny seeing my main mon instagib with water gun" count?
If not, RTDX Rayquaza might be up there. The long climb paired with the music really makes it, along with the fact Rayquaza's not as cheesable as its RT variant or as poorly written as Darkrai even if ray's dumb for not seeing that meteor earlier

Playing PMD DX. Im level 50 and I still cant seem to beat Kyogre. My starters were Psyduck and Cubone, I’ve been going into the dungeon with Golduck, Electabuzz and Zapdos. Any tips? I cheesed the Zapdos fight with Lightning Rod, so I’m not against looking for a Storm Drain Cradily or something similar.

No website has their levels listed anywhere, but I can tell you this. Based on my discovery in the previous thread, all of the other evolved Pokemon throughout the game are at the minimum level that they could possibly be in the mainline games. This means that Bellossom is Lv21, Slaking is Lv36, etc.

I can't fathom why they did that. In the games prior to GtI, the enemy Pokemon were scaled down in relation to the players' level at that point in the game, even if it was physically impossible for them to be at that level in the mainline games. Therefore, it didn't matter if you had to go up against a Salamence, you just did it. Who knows how strong the enemy Pokemon without leveling requirements, such as Cloyster and Sawk, are in that dungeon?

I also happened to stumble across some more bullshit when I was looking for enemy Pokemon levels in Sacred Ruins. And I'm sorry for linking to r/Mystery Dungeon, but here:

I'm looking at gameplay and it does use Earth Power, but as Vibrava, it didn't OHKO even with a super effective hit at non-boosted max HP. it's still fucked, but it's only one enemy. I don't think powerful room-wide moves are common. I don't remember running into moves like that, and I played the game somewhat recently.

Ever since discovering how generous the rewards are for using the Challenge Board in GtI, the game has become even easier due to it becoming my go-to method of hunting vitamins. Now, I'm not sure if using a Pierce Orb and throwing the vitamins at your party in a line will work, but I saw it in a youtube video for PSMD so I'm willing to try it.

I've also been peppering runs of the DLC dungeons in between story missions to see what they were about but it looks like most of them are for training moves and recruiting starter Pokemon. Not sure how I feel about the other starters being DLC exclusives, but I took advantage and started raising a Pikachu to have some variety in my screen nukes.

Again, we don't know that because Bulbapedia doesn't list which overleveled enemy Pokemon are awake or not.

How is it supposed to work? If they don't want me to catch a Bagon yet, then put it in the post-game.
Here, I'll give you another example, and you tell me what you think of it: Let's say that someone is playing Pokemon Red for the first time and, for whatever reason, they decide to spend countless hours grinding their Lv6 Charmander all the way to a Lv50 Charizard on Route 1. Should he or she be allowed to use it?

I like IQ Skills and Exclusive Items because they help differentiate the Pokemon from one another. Without them, everyone would just use whichever Pokemon had the best Abilities, moves, and STABs. Yes, Evolution does matter, but it's extraneous in Super. Not only does it potentially screw the player out of catching 'em all, but it also begs the question as to whether or not any Pokemon in the game are even worth sacrificing for it. Because every Pokemon can have max stats and there are no Linked moves, IQ Skills, or Exclusive Items in Super, the only traits that differentiate Pokemon from one another are Abilities (which you can only have 1 instead of 2), moves (excluding Egg moves and maybe pre-Evolution-only moves, too), STABs, and size (regular or Gigantic).

Does Raichu NEED Nasty Plot in order to do well? Is it worth forfeiting your 100% save file or your fluffy Pichu for it? My answer is no, because, as you said before, you can just use other Pokemon instead. This is especially true when you realize that Smeargle and Shedinja are exponentially better than so many other Pokemon in the game, not to mention that your Hero and Partner are the only Pokemon that are guaranteed to be always available to you. This means that, despite having more Pokemon in it, Super somehow offers LESS strategy than Sky.

well, assume that they're all awake. how many have powerful room-wide moves?

my sense of deservedness does not factor heavily into this. I'm not the one arguing that something should be removed because of what I feel I deserve.
but let's say the game had a level cap. you can't level your Pokemon more than 10 levels past the next gym leader's strongest Pokemon. do you still deserve a level 50 Charizard on Route 1? or is the level cap something that should be removed?

I'm noticing how samey the dungeons feel in GtI. I've been playing through the story and a lot of these dungeons, including the DLC dungeons, have really similar pools of enemies with maybe one or two new additions as you progress. For some reason, I didn't even consider this when picking up the game, I was only thinking about the Pokemon I could recruit and make use of.

These threads are slow, a lot of my posts are separated by when I take small breaks. I was playing yesterday, and I didn't even realize that there were less than 10 posts between two play sessions. In this thread alone I have been playing for several hours. Sometimes I'll post 1 or 2 times during dialogue, but I can wait until all of the dialogue finishes and make longer posts before posting to prevent spamming.

Okay, so I'm fresh out of getting in those hours in GtI and have some real experience playing the "new" PMD. I have yet to play the RT remake so if any of what I said is applied to it, please let me know. Here's what I, personally, would want in a new PMD entry.

Directly comparing my experience playing the 3DS games and Explorers and RT, for some reason Chunsoft decided to lower the difficulty a ton. Streamlining the grinding is fine but getting access to rare and powerful items so easily really fucks with the balance of the game. At some point, the progress stopped being exciting and it started to get boring, but I never felt this way about RT and Explorers. I don't think Explorers handled it perfectly either because it's really hard to use Pokemon other than the mc and partner in those games because the Pokemon are just kind of weak. Even more frustrating is the fact that you can't evolve them until you finish the campaign so you get to make the choice between being stuck with a shitter or just ignoring this mechanic of the game and sticking with the main two who, while also unable to evolve, are just more capable than the average Pokemon. I'd keep shared experience and companion mode, but balance the mission generation to scale the letter grade or stars with how much progress you've made in the story.

Also, I don't know if it's just me, but dungeon generation is less interesting in GtI. A lot of small, empty rooms with long hallways in between them. Maybe I'm just crazy though and it's the 3D messing with how I see the dungeons. Either way, more like RT and Explorers, less like the 3DS games.

I also don't know how popular the Paradise mechanic was when GtI came out, but I'd want that to come back. Just feels nice to build up a settlement and he able to customize it to whatever you want. Also feels like a natural way to expand the scope of this kind of game, make a rescue team, join a guild, graduate, start a town.

Gates is weird, from what i remember it can end up feeling like total bullshit at times if you get real unlucky with incinerate/bug bite. And sometimes, using status orbs (or any statuses) on bosses only gives them a free turn whereas in RTDX you usually see at least a turn or two of benefit.
As for floor generation i definitely think the DS games had more variety.

GtI had a lot of boss fights that were groups of Pokemon rather than one target so I can see the utility of Orbs there. That one turn can be used to use a Violent Seed and boost those stats to give you an edge in the battle.

Also I'm glad I'm not just being a stubborn old man on the dungeon generation. Nostalgia bias can really cloud my judgement sometimes.

Evolution only gives +5 or +10 stats on any pokemon, its just a very minor stat increase unlike regular pokemon games where they get their base total doubled and sometimes even more.
If anything recruiting lower stage pokemon is better cause it makes them learn moves earlier.

Fair enough, what I really want is for the Pokemon I found in the wild in RT to not be a pain to use. Growth both in that game and Explorers feels like it's way worse for the Pokemon that aren't your main two which was my main point. I'm checking out the adventure squad games on dolphin emulator, since I've been waiting for way too long to play these games in hopes I'd pick up a wii somewhere along the way.

It more or less gave you Explorers controls, but the main issue was there was sometimes quite a bit of delay. The DS only really had moves on the touchscreen, there wasn't much else.

One thing I loathe about the DS games is having to enter four layers of menu to execute a move, only getting to have a shortcut for one of them. Adventure squad is somehow worse since the menu is bound to the - button on the wiimote, an uncomfortable to reach button for how crucial it is to the game. At least it can be rebound in dolphin.
That said I was hoping to get a minimap or team status or something, but it's neat anyway.

If you doubletap X you're instantly at the move screen. It doesn't take long, but the QoL hack that gets posted here has the 3ds era move menu when you hit L.
As for Adventure Squad, have you tried lightly tapping one of the other buttons (likely the 1 button on the wiimote) to access the menu? That generally opens some sort of menu in the other games.

The wiimote is meant to be used upright, even without nunchuk. B and A are the regular b and a, and neither opens a menu in a dungeon like it did on the gba. The 1 and 2 buttons skip a turn and switch leader. + does nothing of note, - opens the menu. The fact it's meant to be used upright is what makes - so awkward to reach, especially when holding the nunchuk in the other hand.
Ended up emulating a classic controller with a switch pro controller, that has all the controls from the ds games.

The DS version has more screen real-estate, a second screen for status, and a different+arguably better soundfont. But they’re the exact same game content-wise, so the GBA version will do fine if that’s all you can play, otherwise play the DS version.

i once got hit for 300+ damage there. this was less than half my hp due to jirachi being the only guy that ate hp ups.

The only endgame areas with strategies worth delving into are the level 1 areas.

I don't grind. The only preparations I make are quick and basic from the meager supplies I have saved up. But from the sound of things, you wonder mail gen golden seeds until you're level 100, then spam life seeds until you have max HP, then gummi spam until you have maximum stats, and only then do you tackle any of the content.

if i want a challenge, i just do a level reset dungeon. none of the main-game dungeons even remotely compare in terms of difficulty or strategy.

One of the achievements in the Adventure Log requires you to clear all of Zero Isle, so even if you do North runs for the Golden Mask and loot, you still need to beat Center at least once. I also think it'd be fun to do full 9* job runs in Center, but I think you'd reach Guildmaster Rank before then.

I do wish that there were more difficult end-game dungeons where you couldn't bruteforce them, but it seems like every ROMhack is more focused on the story mode rather than the post-game. What a shame.

Even with maxed stats, in the DS games Screech will still wreck your shit. Remember, it works outside the normal stat formula and cannot be undone without haze/wonder tiles, so you can go from taking 1 damage to hundreds once it effectively makes your Defense stat 3% of what it once was. All it takes is for a room attack to whiff against the nearest mon in a monster house for it to happen, should they be packing it.

All shitposting aside, the game does hand you the tools to be jacked as hell even in the main story without having to go out of your way.
Remember, for every gummi you find, you get at least 1 stat boost in RT and Sky-- although in RT's case you can't buff up the protags that way until postgame.
For RT, certain dungeons you go through in the story, notably Uproar Forest, have a ton of gummis lying around. While the protagonists can't make use of it, if you have a favorite recruit, dumping it on them allows them to gain stats real fast effortlessly. Monotype mons likely won't get important skills though, but due to the way dual type Pokemon and gummis work, you can get some pretty important skills real fast if you pick a mon like Wooper (who I'm pretty sure is a popular pick here, partially for that reason). Postgame lets you use said recruit freely, too.
The game encourages this playstyle, even, with Super Mobile and Buried Relic, the latter being one of the first postgame dungeons tied to the plot. Buried items can only be found by crushing through walls or by using a Ghost-type Pokemon/Mobile Scarf, but the latter kills your belly fast in a 99F dungeon, which is obviously not recommended.

In Sky, Kecleon Shops now sell gummis and you'll find far more lying around on the ground. Unlike RT where the shops had some pretty noteworthy items like Huge Apples or Joy Seeds, the only thing of note in Sky's are the gummis, so you likely won't be using any items on anything else. The buffs you get in Sky are a lot bigger due to Spinda's Cafe sometimes having miracle drinks, which buff your stats up immensely. Unlike RT, though, you're tied to the player/partner duo for far longer, so you likely have to leave the partner behind in buffs if you're solely focusing on IQ skills, but you can balance out the spreads if you prefer having a meatier duo statwise.
Regardless though, the game definitely gives you the tools.

you can notice this in Joyous Tower with Alakazam pretty easily. I remember using Confusion on a Bulbasaur or something when Zam was level 7, it being super effective, and then being dumbfounded that the Pichu I recently recruited, who had maybe half my total stats, hit harder on the same pokemon with a NVE Thundershock while Pichu was at level 14.
From what I'm told level affects damage outside of stat totals even in mainline, but in RT the effect is so pronounced that I'd argue it's more important to have a higher level than higher stats. Hell, Kecleon is level 90 with 90 in everything. It's not very high but he's still dangerous due to how heavily he outlevels you for so much of the game.

Palkia and Rayquaza are handicapped by their 4* size. They're still great mons but IQ G mons can offer a pretty similar niche to Palkia's ability to survey the map-- i personally find Absolute Mover becomes a bit redundant when you already know the layout and stair direction.

and perish song is a status, which rayquaza is immune to.

Mystery Jungle is one of the best dungeons for grinding items. You can set 3 Pass-Through mobility Pokemon to "You go the other way" in search of them for you.
