IE is the "life force" of pokemon, what they eat gets transformed into that energy, who then gets spent by using their moves (that's why they have a natural attraction to battling.) Therefore, Pokèmon are some kind of perfect organisms who, unlike humans, do not produce waste. They just transform everything into energy.
But yeah its just headcanon.
