??? A couple of references are fine sure but.. first encounter is a forced pidgey, first forest is literal copy and paste of viridian forest and there is a heavy bias to kanto mons with the megas. They went too far with it and robbed the region of some identity making it even more forgettable than it is.

BOTW isn't a JRPG with typical 3 year lifespan. When you get pokemon you are expected to play it until the next generation through the online or otherwise. So if the core game is lacking despite them having made more content rich games before then yes I would say that is a problem. Why would I want a more expensive game with less content?

Retard. That alone wasn't the sole problem it's that said old pokemon were being put front and centre in unskipable story events. Also other games usually had more than 70 new mons to balance out the old ones. Using pokeflute to wake up snorlax is a Kanto moment that they put into Kalos for no reason but cheap nostalgia and the retirning legends were literally just the red and blue ones. You would have to be in denial to think there wasn't a very heavy Kanto bias in XY.
But it is no use arguing with you, you are too deluded into thinking XY didn't do anything wrong at all

35 hours in Shield and 30 hours in a second playthrough on another account. Didn't buy the DLC. That's plenty for getting my money's worth out of a bad game where I don't care about the online.
I got 60 hours out of Shining Pearl and 80 in PLA which are better games.

They notoriously release unfinished products, underpay their workers, understaff their departments, and don't give these games anywhere near the budget they'd require to fit their release schedules given all this. Third versions weren't created to shove canceled content into. They were created to allow them to finish the game they set out to make in the fucking first place. There's nothing in the game data to suggest this. Unlike say pic related, which was buried in the code and accessible via hacking.

The sad truth is that Pokemon events just aren't what they used to be.

Interacting with friends and strangers was so much of the fun with X/Y and I'm not sure if the games hold up without that element.

It's still pretty good. Strong route design, well executed environments in terms of graphics high replay value with dex variety, new type, customization, better developed postgame story than what came before. Is it the gold standard for the games? No, but I'd say it went above and beyond with all of this and the success of the online features for what at the end of the day, is still only a first version.

Up to the third gym is definitely the peak as far as its pacing goes, but I thought there were some stand out routes especially in the Laverre City area and the ones near the end. The badlands route does is kind of annoying though

NTA. I like the idea of having different rivals that focus on different elements from the pokemon world aside from battling. I like how the rivals and Shauna in particular tie into the theme of bonds which plays into the final parts of AZ and Lysandre. For the gym leaders, I like how the gym designs give context to who the gym leaders are as people (something that sort of got lost after the 4th gym truthfully). I also like the attempt to try and push for more interesting character designs in terms of age and appearance flaws (Valerie's eyes)

Having played BW very recently, I can't say I enjoyed Bianca or Cheren. Not because they're bad per se, but you just battle them far too often. Both of them.
The charm of rival battles is to see how their teams evolve over time, but because you fight them constantly, there is no evolution. To say nothing of the fact that Cheren's team is all shit you can get by the first Gym. Absolutely pathetic.
If you at least only fought one of them after each Gym or so, it'd at least have a bit more breathing room, but no.
Cheren also isn't very interesting in BW, since his character arc is realizing that maybe there's more to life than being the strongest, something he doesn't really even care about.
Hugh is better by having a clear motivation and being the only Rival.
Serena is pathetic too though. Because you get the "only" Mega Ring, she never gets one during the main story. Your "serious" rival doesn't get to use the main gimmick in the game.
Then again that's only three trainers in the entire game, one of which basically teaches you the gimmick in the first place.
