>>51271861I would agree if smogon didn't have to many 53~60% bans. When shit hits the fan like when dynamax was banned everyone started to spout nonsense like "just adapt to it" ignoring how much time we had to adapt. When your choices are:
A) Hyper Offense
B) Stall
C) Ditto reverse sweep
You know things went south. Balance was legit unplayable without Ditto as a lifeline and it would crumble with a single bad turn. There wasn't enough counterplay for Dynamax because of how much tempo you gain for using a single airstream. Also defensive dynamax is a terrible joke because it is over reliant on predicting, if you get this 50/50 wrong the game is instantly lost.
On less contentious bans like Kyu-B and Kyurem everyone knew why they were getting the axe. Kyu-B was the perfect example of a great mon being held back by it's movepool. Shit has 170 base attack and was running ice beam until this gen. And Kyurem was just too good at either PP stall or just wallbreaking. That is not a healthy level of flexibility. Think of Lando-T that /vp/ hates so much, he is easily one of the most flexible pokemon in the whole game as it fits many roles and fills teambuilding gaps with two good immunities. He would get the axe with roost. Because suddenly he becomes great in most defensive areas while still having a good offensive presence.
There are some weird one sided bans that the council will do from time to time but most of those happen because waiting for a suspect while things like Melmetal and Kyu-B are running rampant in DLC 1 SS isn't exactly a dream world. Or whenever Genesect is back for revenge.
But yes, they will keep banning absurd wallbreakers like Galarmanitan and Dracovish. Not because it "hurts stall" but because they warp teambuilding on a fundamental level while still excelling at their jobs as wallbreakers. You know things are crazy when even HO players didn't want to play against them.
