This resulted in storage issues when they decided not to Dexit that gen like they were considering.
Fixing those problems got them dangerously close to the "drop date" -- the point where they MUST either go gold or delay the game.
At this point they had three options for Gen 8:

As much as the likes of us would've wanted B, that lowers the bottom line so it's out of the question.
C is what was getting Naughty Dog infamous, and would only be able to work for so long.
Between Dexit and Crunch, I think some of us can agree that Dexit was the lesser of two evils.
