Fearow was always one of my favourite early birds. It's so cool. I remember having one as my team as a kid, him and dodrio were my faves.

Fearow is pretty good in GSC during the story. Earliest and best source of STAB Flying with the highest attack. Other birds either Tackle until the high 10s or they have terrible attack.
Plus you can get KENYA in Goldenrod, which being a traded Pokemon will get a permanent EXP boost the entire game.
You can solo those games with a spearow, I swear.

I'll never understand how so many kids ended up with Pidgeot, even the first time I played Pokemon I pretty quickly went "damn this sucks"

Bird pokemon are just cool in general.
The only early route birds I didn't like was Pidove. They were more annoying than anything else.
As for usability, I like that as the gens went on the early route birds became more viable. Talonflame Toucannon and Corvinight are all fucking brilliant pokemon you can keep on your team the entire way through without having to swap out later down the line.

I wonder what this upcoming gens early route bird will be.

Speaking as a kid from a MASSIVE family. Whenever I saw my sisters or cousins teams. It was 50% of the time. A overleveled starter and a bunch of random shit from early game.
30% of the time. A bunch of early route pokemon in there team up to about 3rd gym.

And the rest were just random shit they thought looked cool.
Out of about 10-15 kids.

Are you serious? Pidgeot is the second most popular regional bird after Staraptor and it got a Mega too, unlike many Pokemon. Everyone used it in R/B/Y because it was easy to catch and cooler than Rattata, Ash also got one and it was possible to catch an high level Pidgeotto at Viridian Forest in Yellow. However, you are right about Fearow.

Pidgeot is one of my old favourites though. Yeah, mostly just kept as a fly slave (and always useful against grass and fighting), but still took her all the way through the elite four every single time. I never leave my starters or original flyers behind.

Pidgeot has always been my favorite Pokémon. I always liked the air elemental characters in shows as a kid, and it felt like the defacto flying type in Gen 1 alongside the starters and Pikachu.

Still, I will never forget the absolute shock I felt when I first saw the corocoro leaks with its mega. It just never struck me as popular enough to warrant one. I’m sure it’s mostly due to Twitch Plays Pokemon, but regardless, I’m still in disbelief my bro got an actually well designed mega all these years later.
