On the one hand, he's some kind of a badly-written "I'm good at fighting because the writers say so and because I live in a country where we have a special I WIN button that other countries don't have" character, but on the other hand, Ash has been on kind of a tear, winning things that he wasn't previously allowed to.
I get the feeling this is supposed to be Ash's last series, that this whole thing is supposed to be his final shebang, one final, huge win before he gets replaced by Goh, or by a more generic MC that ties into SV's school theme, maybe even a new protag every series.
I don't know, I could easily be wrong about them dropping Ash.
I do know I'd be pretty pissed if "Charizard guy with win button" wins, and yet another Charizard that isn't Ash's gets another major win.
