It makes alot of sense for Hilbert to be the main protagonist of BW and here's why. The game constantly allures to you and N being the modern day versions of the legendary heroes of Unova. As we know, all of the legendary heroes were men. The first ones were brothers, in which the older brother pursued Truth while the younger brother pursued Ideals. They started a war that split the Original Dragon apart and pitted their remnants against each other. After they settled their dispute in the name of peace, their sons reignited the war years later and destroyed Unova in the process. It makes no sense for one of the legendary heroes to suddenly be a woman. N is obivously meant to represent the older brother while Hilbert represents the younger brother.
