the medium change left it feeling like an actual step forward for the series (whereas games since feel stagnant)
perfectly OK game
decent to top-tier pokemon and character designs
gimmick was solid, didn't feel desperate and out of place like all subsequent gimmicks (and it seemed, at the time, it was going to be incorporated into the franchise rather than wholly cast off like every other terrible gimmick)

that's just my feeling. I've been here (in the franchise I mean) since the beginning, and I think gen 6 was probably the last generation I felt, on average, quite positive about.

You joke, but if XY is re-released on consoles with nothing more than better specs and a higher difficulty setting, you'd see people complaining about Kalos a-lot less. It already has the best region diversity for playthroughs, wide range of avatar options, arguably the most popular battle system with Mega Evolutions returning. You'd also get a game with Triple Battles + Horde Encounters again but without the shitty FPS. Nearly everything that Gen 6 introduced was successful and people want stuff to come back.

Off the top of my head, I've got the following complaints: next to no post-game, bland story, removed fan favourite features (e.g. battle frontier), very easy, extremely unbalanced gimmick. But I feel like almost all of this applies to every other entry in the series.

i can relate to this. I started with gen1 but skipped the ds era since i didnt care for the ds and felt burnt out on pokemon after gen3. XY was the game I came back to the series with, amazing entry because of all the things >>51327777

A combination of pacing and background storytelling that doesn't do the game's actual story justice. If the difficulty weren't easier than every game before it then it would be less noticeable but it's an actual damper on the experience.

It really didn't. XY's biggest sin was going back on some things from Gen 5 like seasons and the potential of difficulty modes.

Paradox forms should have just been an expansion of megas. Mewtwo X looks just as caveman as Sada.

Unfinished, incomplete, rushed, bareboned, lazy ass plot with stupid ass villains where you can finish the game under 20 hours but you felt like you want to drop the game in the 4th hour

Honestly I would have preferred XY getting a Z but it's unfortunate that it didn't.

Maybe I'm jaded from the past two gens, but last games I genuinely enjoyed were the Gen 6 games. SM and USUM were a slog, LGPE I dropped, Galar I forced myself to finish, haven't touched BDSP in a while. I did finish Arceus but that feels more like a spinoff game akin to what Colosseum and Gale of Darkness are.

I wish I knew, I really wish I knew. In any case, live interaction with friends in the overworld was a massive leap in technology from sitting in the Union Rooms on the DS. And being on the 2nd screen makes it more intuitive to control than anything they've tried to do before or since.

It was the first gen since internet became mainstream that actually had some mystery behind it. 3DS hacking was in its infancy, so we didn't have the whole game fully dumped and datamined a week before launch, nor did we have transfers from prior gens so trading and interacting with people was actually important. It was also the first worldwide release so everyone was learning at the same exact time.
They are still mediocre games, but they had a sense of community and discovery that nothing else will ever have.

Most people don't care about the campaign. Everyone loved PSS and the communities it formed on several platforms, including /vp/ with Safari Threads and 2ch x 4chan Wonder Trade Events. Breeding for IV's became viable before PKHeX which allowed people to wonder trade 4IV pokemon in hopes of new 4IV pokemon they could breed into a new 5IV pokemon (even better if it was a female in an apricorn/rare ball and/or egg moves). You could see all the people worldwide playing alongside you. There was those rare battles of having a language barrier that would prevent communication but looking at team preview instantly showed what kind of players you were, and then you would each give a friendly Nice! afterwards as a thanks for the battle. They would then turn into an Acquaintance that continues to show up, and then eventually added to your friends list to maintain seeing them. Acquaintances and Friends could share O-Powers that mattered before PKHeX.

There's no obsession with XY. There's a desire to connect with trainers through official in-game means in realtime for a purpose again; to feel "connected" while accomplishing the same goals whether that be Friend Safari, sending/receiving breedjects in Wonder Trade, or getting Exp Power Lv3 from a friend as you go through the restaurants for leveling. That sounded fucking gay, but it's not as gay as Plaza or Y-Comm.

There are latefags who own patched Switches who can't skip breeding and leveling, but there are still other things having proper online could accomplish that include (but are not limited to):
>finding passerbys you like and genning them whatever they need for better battles (pokemon and items)
>obtaining a new legitimate vivillon collection with the new region's mark as a scrapbook of meeting many new trainers of various locations
>text communication for specific requests or battle rules
>friend code reliant unlock for other players

Also honestly gen 6 had a great pokedex. A lot of great designs that felt like it was making up for a lot of the terrible designs gen 5 had. Yet another thing I can't say about the generations that followed.
