All the fairy tales I grew up reading had the fae folk at best work in concert with insects or bugs, at worst the insects/bugs were treated like livestock and the like.
Fairy resists Bug because fairies are more powerful than bugs in the tales.

1. You are illiterate. OP said there should be a freeze-dry-like fire move that's strong against fairy. Not all fire moves.
2. You are schizophrenic. Nobody mentioned dragons. You imagined that because they still live rent free in your head.
3. You don't play. Dragon was broken because it was such easily spammable neutral STAB. Having something be immune to them was enough. Introducing a type with no meaningful weaknesses was not necessary.
