>>51333331Honestly, yeah. And it's hard to deny it.
I don't think it was a bad idea at its core. In terms of what it's strong against, I think it's fine. Dragon, Fighting, and Dark were all pretty busted in gen 5 and now they're a lot more manageable.
The problem is in terms of counters. Poison and Steel are pretty dogshit offensive typings. In theory, having Fairy be weak to them would make them stronger, but in practice, it just means that Fairy might as well not have weaknesses because Steel and Poison coverage is still garbage. The moves are either weak, unreliable, or have poor distribution.
Fairy desperately needs a common weakness. Fire, Normal, Bug, whatever. It really doesn't matter what the specific type is, but it has to be a type that's widely distributed and useful for countering more than just Fairies.
Also worth noting that all 3 of the types that resist Fairy are weak to the extremely offensively common Ground, and both of the types it's weak to are resisted the extremely defensively common Steel.
The resistance to Bug is also totally pointless. Yes, I know U-Turn is arguably the best move in the game, but it was arguably the best when resisted by 6 types and is still arguably the best when resisted by 7.
And while this isn't related to the actual balance of the game, it is related to any discussion of it. Whether it was GF's intention or not, Fairy appeals to trannies. This unfortunately means that if anyone tries to and point out how the type is unbalanced, a vocal and very deranged minority will be sure to jump in and start shitposting defensively. I guarantee you that one of them is going to call me a "chud" or say "rent free" or something similar just for bringing this fact up.
