Only use pokemon that I caught in their first stage.
Main party will consist of pokemon I think are cute or cool regardless of competitive viability.
Nickname every pokemon I plan to use.
Try to fill up the pokedex as I go but don't put the whole game on hold for it..
Try to keep the levels of the team as even as possible.
Make up character traits and personalities for the mainstays of my team, and they are friends with each other.
I don't mind a little type overlap as long as the secondary types are different, and if the pokemon aren't overpowered, like I wouldn't use a Gastrodon if I started with Turtwig or Piplup because the water and ground types are both too strong, but Beedrill and Butterfree on the same team are fine.
