Electabuzz and Electivire have always been clearly based on bees to me.Yellow with black stripes, fur, antennae, etc. One of them is literally called ElectaBUZZ.

If you look at what seems to have been the design process for gen 1 it becomes really obvious why.

"Capsule Mon" stuff was flat out not designed with types in mind. After that point most batches were basically just "we want a mon of x element" multiple times in a row. Its pretty obvious that basically nothing in gen 1 was designed with dual types in mind.
Its pretty likely that multiple types weren't a thing for a period as well. Gen 1 doesn't really have dual types beyond weird basic combos(like grass/poison) with few exceptions like the birds.

I know they used Eleking for Rapidash's cry so its definitely an obvious monster to think about in regards to early pokemon.
