As it stands, I know Pokemon's standard for "dark" is just acknowledging that death exists (pic related). And that's enough for Pokemon fans to say

what's shown is still fairly light though. (e.g. N doesn't delve deep into Ghetsis being a douche to him as a child nor mentions/implies Ghetsis slapping him around or anything.)

Giratina is dark, as are all third legendaries after him, except Zygarde cause he's pretty ok.
Arceus's story is dark as in evil as shit, pure evil, and the Regis being closed forever in a cave while Regieleki even having an impairing shit on him is dark.
PokeBalls are dark, literal drug-inducing machines.

The problem isn't that dark lore isn't there. The problem is that they don't elaborate it all, like everything else in pokemon. And when they do, it's just a facade to the usual new retarded game that will end in the most pathetic and worthless way of all (N's story)

The original dragon ate humans, that's dark, but you'll never even see that, and if you will it will be a 1 second blurred image like AZ's war and nuke. That's the problem.

So to make it dark, I'd change the entirety of TPCI and TPC first, and then Gamefreak
