>>51367967>>51368016These are very poor takes and show a clear lack of understanding about the pokemon market and who buys what. A big caveat is that we have no idea what the future holds, and pokemon could become worthless tomorrow.
To say that pokemon has been on the decline for years, and then say SwSh are the best selling games behind the originals, is hilarious. Yes, the switch has a huge install base, but people still have to buy the games. And at $60+tip, that's a big ask for a person who is unsure they truly want the game, especially with so many other games out there. Also, SwSh came out in 2019, not mid2020.
Anyways, pokemon is a company with products in many different channels targeting different people and fans. The people that collect the cards are different from the people that play the tcg who are different than the people who play the games who are different than the people who play Pokemon Go. Of course there's overlap, but it's not a perfect circle.
Also, pokemon has been on the rise in public opinion. The transition to the switch was seen as a success despite the backlash of dexit. The hype surrounding Pokemon Legends Arceus was huge and signaled a revitalization in the company to fans. People actually saw that "things could be different" and it gave them hope. And no, the opinion of v/vp is not the general consensus. Off the successful heels of PLA comes gen9 to massive hype. The first actual open world poke game where you can do the gyms in any order.
There is more hype and happiness and popularity in the fanbase of pokemon than throughout most of their 3ds lifespan. The cards, and their secondary market, represent a small portion of the overall public opinion and standing of the company in fan's eyes. Most people playing the games do not give a shit about record breaking sales (or drop in sales) of a card, just like similar is true vice versa.
No one knows if Pokemon will make it to the 50th anni, but they'll be here tomorrow.
