Currently doing my second play test of my Crystal hack that tries to fix the level curve. I just made it to Blackthorn with a team of 5 all at level 35-36 with 0 wild grinding which is a good sign. Andes is freshly caught on Route 45, at a more appropriate level for this stage in the game this time.
Try to guess the Pokémon from the nicknames and icons.
If anyone would be interested in doing a quick playtest of my hack I would really appreciate it because I was making adjustments as I played through trying to balance it perfectly. I'd like to know if there are any areas that you end up too underlevelled/overlevelled etc. I need a run where you have a team of 6 by Goldenrod, and another run where you have a team of 4 until Blackthorn, in order to properly test the balance. It's supposed to be a very faithful hack, with some minor balancing patches:
>Gym Leaders given better teams
>Chuck, Jasmine and Pryce have dynamic teams depending on which order you battle them
>NPC trainers bumped up a few levels, especially the ones post-Mahogany
>Team Rocket Grunts are appropriately levelled, giving you more EXP, and Archer has a proper team now
>E4 and Lance also have improved teams
>Wild Pokémon are higher levelled
>Linking Cord item available to buy from Mahogany Town after beating Team Rocket at Goldenrod
>Apricorn Ball bugs fixed
>Enemy AI no longer has a 50% chance to miss status moves
>All wild Pokémon in Kanto are in the level 40-45 range
>All trainers and Gym Leaders in Kanto bumped up 10-15 levels, like in HGSS
>E4 now has a higher levelled rematch, with unique dialogue
>Trainers added to Olivine Gym, Pewter Gym, Viridian Gym, and Victory Road for extra EXP gain
It's supposed to not FEEL like a ROM hack, so I tried to make the dialogue and NPCs team stay in line with the "rules" and "guidelines" of Gen 2 (trainers don't use version exclusives, different trainer classes have "pools" of Pokémon that they specialise in, etc.). Let me know if you're interested.
