Clearly, she just likes a good battle. Thats why she lets her opponent use their full team while she only uses 3 Pokemon. She gives the opponent all these advantages to do it.

They tried to make the battle tense and made it seem like Ash had a chance to lose, but making it 3v6 only served to make Ash look like a goddamn loser.

This fight was so hated in Japan that it basically tanked her chances at being a popular character despite an initial high being the only new female character alongside Rosa.
