Pokemon are very aggressive, this is probably the only time in the series when wild pokemon were very dangerous. Especially since damage calculation is so weird in this game, everything does more damage than they usually would. It's very scary trying to catch pokemon in time distortions too, they have huge levels, gang up on you, and deal crazy amounts of damage.
Alpha pokemon are great. Being comically oversized improves every pokemon's design.
There's a lot of good fanservice and references, like the ancestors.
More mature writing. I'm not asking for anything edgy but it's nice that the world is very dangerous and unforgiving this time around.
You can make your pokemon talk to each other.
Pokemon move around more in fights. They try to reposition themselves and animations involve more contact. They roar during fights too. It makes battles feel more alive.
QoL changes like no longer needing Everstones because you can decide when to evolve pokemon anytime and being able to change moves on the spot.
