I don't think N could be a very good professor. N's strength isn't thinking - it's FEELING. Intuition and empathy, not cold logic. Not that he's stupid, but I don't think he's done anything particularly smart either.

Realistically if he went into the academic field I think he would be a highly controversial figure; he would ruffle a lot of feathers by coming in and completely overturning many long-held theories about pokemon society, natural heirarchies, mating habits, etc because he's uniquely able to get that information straight from the source, and if the pokemon world of professors is anything like IRL academia, there would be some people higher-up that would HATE him with a passion simply because he's making them look stupid.

It depends which version of N, the one with Reshiram is the hero of truth, science requires objectivity.

On the other hand, the one with the ideals, Zekrom, would remain faithful to his ideals, even if he had to cover up the truth, I associate this more with religions, which is not objective and requires devotion and faith without evidence. Yes, science is also not perfect, but unlike religion, it admits the possibility of error and the possibility of change.

Also on the negative side, many scientists have done immoral things (against their own ideals or those of society) in search of the truth.

I'm not entirely sure N is even literate. He grew up as an intentionally emotionally deprived figurehead of a cult, then found out his entire life was a lie orchestrated so that other people could grab power. He probably abandoned civilization entirely and went off to live in the woods.

It makes sense for him, but I think he'd be more of a field researcher than the typical pokemon professor who works out of a lab. He'd spend decades at a time out in the deep wilderness, occasionally sending his findings back to civilization via a flying type.
