For Feraligatr, The other two Johto Starters were completely kneecapped to make the Kanto Starters look better so people who don't play the games assume the same thing happened to Feraligatr.

For Chestnaught, most people don't even know it exists, Greninja got all the shilling, while Dephox got all the furries.

It's based on a Dunkleosteus, which had gills attached to the jaw hinge. They'd be right around here and wouldn't be visible even realistically.
Most fishmons don't even have their gills detailed anyway.

GF didn't intentionally make the other two starters bad, Meganium is a victim of Gen 2 undertuned support mons because GF overestimated how strong they'd be and Typhlosion has just never been given an opportunity to be part of a doubles meta where it could be relevant.

Feraligtr is naturally a bit faster and more powerful than Dracovish but it loses the strong jaw boost for devastating fishious rends.
Does sheer force effect Fishious rend in any way?
Both Dracovish and Feraligtr are still walled by the same water absorbing water types.

Think a bit outside of the box. If you are running Fishious Rend you might as well run Torrent since it gives a equivalent boost to Strong Jaw if you are at low health and if you run certain coverage moves such as Earthquake or Superpower those don't also get the boost.
