Physical copies are a finite resource and since Pokémon refuses to reprint them and only put a handful of games on the eshop it was only a matter of time, especially since Pokémon is highly sought after for collectors/completionists.

Because it's Pokemon.
Pokemon games only increase in price. If you want to make a decent investment, buy the physical Sword/shield + Expansion Pass and wait 10 years for the Switch eShop to shut down.
Buy now, sell for 3x the price at the very minimum.

Better than HGSS? LOL. HGSS added the Battle Frontier to a region which only had a Battle Tower. It also added Gym leader rematches and Pokeathlon as well. ORAS took away Gym Leader rematches and the Battle Frontier from a region which had them in the third version. Other Emerald content was cut too like the Team Magma base in Mt. Chimney, Mirage Tower and Desert Underpass as well.

I'd say they're about the same as FRLG, maybe a little better because I'm biased towards the Dexnav.

People have been predicting the death of pokémon since Gen 3 anon. As long as they continue to do what they do, the way they do, the only thing that will kill the thing is a "Children of Men" scenario, where humanity becomes incapable of producing more children to replace the target audience every three years. Because as it stands, they've been able to sell to Xennials, Gen Y's, Gen Z's and currently Gen Alphas spanning almost 30 real-life years.

This is true.
If Nintendo themselves died at this very moment, the Pokemon IP would only be slightly affected in the long run. It would set things back for the IP, but it would recover quickly.
