SM really was telling of what would come. I think we could forgive things like S1 shenanigans as Shudo-isms, but the Gen 3 onwards asspulls are pretty egregious. But Soaked Mudsdale and Counter the Counter and then following it up with the garbage battle writing of JN was just sad.
Inb4 kids show. Yeah I know, but DP and XY still managed fun, high energy battles that took advantage of not being the games while still largely sticking true to their mechanics bar a couple slip ups here and there. If it wasn't a game mechanic it was an established plot/lore point like Infernape's Blaze as opposed to Ash's Torracat absorbing a blast burn out of nowhere.

Eh, nah, it makes sense here at least. Thunder armor was stupid.
Soak is almost 100% just a canon excuse for that scene back in gen 1 where the sprinklers made Onix weak to electricity. Pikachu basically just did it again, only now Soak exists so they can make the comparison.
