zoomers and people who lived outside minnesota will never understand the joy of walking into a Shinder's and seeing rack after rack of trading cards, pokemon cards, official art, holographic posters, plushes only available in japan... the 90s were such a good fucking time

what the hell happened to the world? it's not that i grew up, either. all the older folks i talk to agree, in 30 years we've completely regressed

I think people who shit on these sprites are viewing them through the lens of their current designs. This was before Pokemon was a franchise, back when it was created as just a cool little Monster Collector RPG. Almost every franchise has inconsistent designs at the start before establishing an artstyle. In Pokemons case, the anime codified most of the designs and thus it's more "sanitized"

Gen 5 got me back into pokemon (I skipped 3&4).
Gen 5 just resonated with what I thought the ethos of pokemon was even though there were some misses the attempt was at least genuine to the spirit of the series.
X/Y were "good" in the sense of the introduced novelty of 3D. If you took away 3d it didn't have much going for it.
SuMo killed the series for me again. It was blatantly obvious they were scraping the bottom of the barrel. Glad I never got into swsh and have no hope for sv

Both sides are cherrypicking. Red/Green has the better sprites overall, because Blue's sprites aren't "improved" sprites, they're alternate poses. Red/Green were meant to be the "default" sprites, and looking at some mons with wonky or off model Blue sprites (Blastoise, Mewtwo, Pidgeot, Tauros, Magneton, Kadabra, Weezing, Dugtrio, Kabuto, Eevee, Kakuna, Jynx, etc.) demonstrates this.

Because Blue sold like shit (compared to Red/Green), and Koffing's Red/Green sprite is fine. They only really care about Pokemon outside of Japan when it comes to numbers, unless it has to do with Anniversaries or sales, Pokemon might as well be Japan only.

This "you only think the past was better because nostalgia". I've been hearing this shit since 2005, and I may have bought it back then, and it may be partly true. But these days? No, the past was better because the present is hell. Its like everything before 2012 was some illusion. The world has gone to such shit, that even zoomers watching 80s/90s home movies noticed that something happened. And to think, that objectively speaking, even the 90s were a huge downgrade compared to the 80s on alot of things! Maybe zoomers are better off not knowing life from back then, ignorance is bliss. They'll probably feel nostalgia for the early 2020s only because the world ends up getting even worse.
