Yeah but Gen 4 is definitely when the games really ramped up the dark and edgy. Gen 3 was really light. Yeah the region almost got destroyed, but that was by accident because the villains were retards. Cyrus the edgelord wanted to end this world and become God of a new one in his autistic image, he led a bowl cut cult that did shit like blow up lakes and you watch Pokemon dying (you see it, not just hear about it like in Gen I), Darkrai and Giratina were the legendaries of nightmares -literally.
