Obviously they made Zygarde for that and made the new forms for that and all of that, they wrote the lore and made the designs but possibly never thought about making a game. Certainly they had ideas, but may have never started knowing they needed to release a new generation asap.
The only thing that got me interested for how specific it was was the showcasing of Zygarde powers in the anime and how its rays created roots and trees out of nothing. Lumiose city being invaded by roots was also oddly specific and something that Gamefreak'd make up since every third legend has his "invade the region with-" moment.
However theyve also shown to make up stuff in the moment when they designed Nexrozma they pointed out the big claws being his hands but then in UNecrozma they're still its feet
